Thanks Giving
A "Crowd Hoot" story
By Thelma Mary Caroline
"I'm so glad we get holidays off," Kyle said, stringing up a string of coleslaw.
"Thanksgiving is not a holiday."
"Not again, L J," Charley sighed. "It is so a holiday. More so that Daylights Savings Time is."
"Okay, but at least on Daylights Savings the stores are open. Not much of a holiday if you can't go anywhere."
"You could go for a walk or something," Cassandra said.
"No, it's too cold. But anyway, I've got reserve duty. Eighteen hours."
Charley glanced up at L J, unsure. "Overtime?"
"No, punishment, actually. For saying that I'd --"
"Ahem."
L J turned around, a fake grin on her face. "Hello, Jeriziah. I wasn't really going to tell them, it was a lesson in denial."
"I'm sure," she said. "You're really wanting to work on Christmas too, aren't you?"
"That's fine, nothing's open that day anyway. First shift or second?"
"Both."
Everyone else hurried about their work, and Jeriziah admired the decorations. "Nice that you guys are spending your day off making the Condo brighter. I love the lights and stuff."
"Thanks, Jeri," Charley said. "We're just trying to keep moral up with all that's happened lately."
